Biography:
Wendy Sherman, U.S. Under Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman was confirmed by the Senate on April 13, 2021 and sworn in as the 21st and first female Under Secretary of State on April 14, 2021. Before assuming In that position, Undersecretary Sherman was Professor of Public Leadership Practice and Director of the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard Kennedy School. She was also a Senior Fellow at the school’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and a Senior Counselor at the Albright Stonebridge Group. From 2011 to 2015, Assistant Secretary Sherman served as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, where she traveled to 54 countries and led the U.S. negotiating team that reached agreement on a plan of joint global action between the P5+1, the European Union, and Iran for which, among other diplomatic achievements, she was awarded the National Security Medal by President Barack Obama.
She previously served in the State Department as an adviser under Secretary Madeleine Albright, as special adviser to President Clinton and policy coordinator on North Korea, and as assistant secretary for legislative affairs under Secretary Warren.
