Police hold press conference on Robinwood shooting as bullets continue to fly
the Annapolis Police The department held a press conference this afternoon to discuss the shooting last night in the community of Robinwood which sent two children to trauma centers and injured a third.
In addition to the police, elected officials and the clergy were represented and spoke.
Captain Miguez said that in addition to last night’s shooting in Robinwood, an additional call for gunshots came in at 10:05 p.m. last night on Copeland Street and yet another call today at 1 p.m. 02 for shots fired at Bay Ridge Gardens. Police found evidence of the shooting at two additional locations and there was property damage, but no injuries were reported. Police do not know if the incidents are related.
Miguez said the 15-year-old man remains hospitalized in stable condition and the 11-year-old woman has been released. Medical staff at the scene last night said a third victim, a 15-year-old woman, suffered a scrape; however, Miguez said police do not believe his injury was the result of a gunshot.

It is believed that one or more suspects came out of the woods, fired “indiscriminately” and then retreated into the woods. Police do not believe children were the intended targets. There were no arrests.
Without exception, all speakers urged suspects to turn themselves in and the community to come together and report everything they know. Mayor Buckley explained the 15-year-old’s injury by saying he was paralyzed from the shooting.
In a prepared statement released by the City of Annapolis, Mayo Buckley said:
“It’s a community that cares. It’s also a community in shock. Last night someone’s 15-year-old son was shot. Someone’s daughter was traumatized and is lucky to survive. We’re asking people who know something to come forward. If you know anyone who has a gun or anyone who knows people who bring guns to this community, let us know. We must remove these weapons from our community.
“These people who shoot indiscriminately in our community, they don’t care about this community. They put their own siblings, mothers and fathers in danger and they are reckless. We cannot tolerate this kind of violence.
“I want to thank the police, who have been out all night. We are going to find out who did this. It won’t make the victims any better, but we want the abuser to know that we will find you. Our priority is the safety of all our neighborhoods and the families who live there. »

Before ending the conference, Chief Jackson said he would seek help from federal partners to help him. Captain Miguez reminded people that Metro Crume Stoppers is another way to tip anonymously.

On February 21 around 7 p.m., Annapolis Police responded to the 1300 block of Tyler Avenue in the community of Robinwood for a shooting report. Several callers reported that two minors had been hit by gunfire. Officers arrived at the scene and located two minors with gunshot wounds.
Two victims, a 15-year-old man and an 11-year-old woman, were transported to area hospitals by medical evacuation. On Tuesday morning, the female victim was discharged from hospital and the male victim remains hospitalized in stable condition. A third miner, a 15-year-old woman, was injured while fleeing the area. She was treated at a local hospital and released.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect(s) walked into the community from a wooded area, fired several shots and beat the victims who were playing in the area. The suspect(s) left the community the same way they entered it. A house was also hit by a bullet. No one inside the house was injured.
